Carl Hiaasen's South Florida Three-Book Set #2 (Lucky You, Basket Case, Double Whammy) For a limited time get three books in Carl Hiaasen's popular South Florida series together in one easy-to-order package, including the bestseller, Lucky You.
Carl Hiaasen was born and raised in Florida. After graduating from the University of Florida, he joined the Miami Herald as a general assignment reporter and went on to work for the newspaper’s weekly magazine and prize-winning investigations team. As a journalist and author, Carl has spent most of his life advocating for the protection of the Florida Everglades. He and his family live in southern Florida.
Any books by this author are hysterical. My personal favorite is Sick Puppy - read it when you are not in the mood for anything serious. He is a totally wacky writer and these are quick reads.
I’ve only read the first one, so far, LUCKY YOU, but it’s GREAT. These villains are a couple of unlikely masterminds but worthy of any feature news-blurb completing the google search for “Florida Man” because Hiasson knows how to fully capture Florida Man like no other.
Two winning lottery tickets attached to diametrically opposed winners who are to split $28 million.
Greed on one winning side, Mother Nature, “Holy Shrines,” and good, old fashioned luck, and this Florida caper is complete.
I may be morphing into Hiasson’s #1 fan. But not to worry, Carl. Kidnapping may be your style, but it’s not mine. You’re safe!
Enjoy this and all Hiasson’s books. He’s the perfect escape for these “unprecedented“ (gag 🤢)times.
Carl Hiassen is a Miami Herald columnist who writes mystery novels about all the good Florida stuff- dumb blondes, drunk fishermen, corrupt politicians, snow birds, clueless tourists... you get the idea.
Gotta love a guy who can turn out both the Demi Moore classic "Strip Tease" AND the kids' movie "Hoot"-- He's written a ton of them, but my favorites are Tourist Season, Basket Case, Skinny Dip and the before-mentioned Hoot.
If you are looking for fun, crazy characters and lots of surprises these are great books. Hiassen has a magic for introducing LOTS of characters and just when you think there is no way he can get the story together it all gels magically. I found that when you read his books right after one another they can seem the same so I recommend spacing them out when you read several but they are really enjoyable. Great beach reads for summer.
Carl Hiassen's books are fabulous summertime reads. They all deal with environmental issues, mostly the erosion of the swamps of Florida to make room for more high-rises and golf courses. They are really funny and really strange. I'm just bummed I've read them all already.
Just finished Double Whammy---If I ever need an anti-depressant, I take myself to B & N and buy a Hiaasen novel....I think I've now read them all...Hurry up, Carl--never know when I'll need a new fix!
Double Whammy was my first, I laughed till I cried, the characters are soooo bizarre, crazy, delightful...got me hooked on Haissen. I've read it all, and all but 2 were worth the price of a hardback book!!
What can I say, his books tap into my humor. A real page turner. More Floridians should take up his theme of saving our beautiful state from developers, who only care about making a buck.
If you the kind of person that laughs out loud at something that you read with no regards to how you are percieved then this one is for you. Enjoy. No really, Enjoy.
