Reggae superstar Bob Marley died 30 years ago, and this Behind the Songs compilation pays tribute to his musical legacy. Written by Maureen Sheridan-a writer and editor for Billboard -it features specially conducted interviews with Rita Marley, all the surviving Wailers, studio engineers, and others.
Super easy read. Following the life of Bob Marley. How many Jamaican artists are linked to one another. Each chapter is based on an album in chronological order. Each new song (many songs are rerecorded on multiple albums), a brief description and references to other aspects of Marley's life.
Very good description of Marles life in Jamaica, exploring his early life. Family heritage. And friendships. Also speaking to a lot of the corruption that existed both politically and and the music industry. Rastafari culture/religion and Reggae musics rise in popularity worldwide.
I'm a big fan of Reggae music. Primarily a Bob Marley listener. This book reminded me to explore Marleys other band members, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. As well as very early influences like the Skatalites. And the Ska scene.
