He has been likened to football legend Pele, and has burst onto the international scene with a blistering performance in Euro 2004. At just 18 years old, he has given his international side the cohesion and the drive that they need to succeed. Wayne Rooney has truly become England's hero. This book contains everything that any fan would ever want to know about this exceptional young man—from his early family life and childhood kickarounds in the park, to his apprenticeship with the Everton youth team and how he has coped with suddenly being thrust into the harsh glare of the world's media. This is a must-read for any soccer fan.
I decided to read this book because it had been sitting on my bookshelf for years and also Wayne Rooney is one of my favourite football players. A setting that i found interesting in this book was that he used to live in a very poor house and he could barely afford anything so he had to earn money himself by working hard every day at his dream. My favourite quote from this book was "I used to go round to the back of my house everyday and kick my ball at the wall. My Nana would always give me a yelling but that didn't bother me as long as i was touching the ball." because it shows me what his personality was like back then and that he football was his life. Something new that I learned from this book was that you must work hard everyday to achieve your goals in life.
