After Fredericka Schumacher, daughter of a millionaire, marries Alexandre de Granville, the penniless son of a European baron, both are surprised to see love develop between them
I’ve read many books with similar storylines. Wealthy socialites and a fortune hunter husband who has a foreign intrigue. A girl who is not very pretty, but business savvy and very rich. Affairs and war time love and lust. The ups and downs of a family business from 1910’s to the 1929 stock market crash and the aftermath. The high society parties in New York and summers at a beachside resort like Newport. Don’t forget the gowns, jewels and scrumptious dinner menus!
What stood out in this story is despite Alexandre and Dina’s infidelities and opinions of each other they held true to their wedding vow of for richer or poorer. Somewhere along the years they fell back in love, forgave each other and blended their strengths and weaknesses to move forth together.
