I read this years ago, picked it up at a bookshop in Canberra. I loved it, thouhg I can't really remember it to be honest. I'm planning on rereading it soon. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the third installment is ever coming out. But any book set in Rome with some dogs in it is going to be a win.
