I picked this one up in a library sale because I wanted to learn about what the catholic view of the local church is. What surprised me the most was how often I agreed with the catholic view of the local church, or parish. I particularly loved the way he described how the parish and the diocese should be in a reciprocal relationship not simply the bishop dictating what should happen. There is certainly plenty of catholic peculiarities, at least for a protestant. Overall, I enjoyed this book as a clear presentation of catholic theology around the parish.

The main question I had while reading this book was how often that relationship truly works that way. I don't know if he is simply describing the ideal catholic doctrine that does not happen practically if his view is the minority, or if this theology has shifted over the last 30 years.
