outhouses of Alaska

Outhouses of Alaska is a fun-to-read, beautifully photographed look at the lowly privy. From the lonely Don Sheldon outhouse on Ruth Glacier in Denali National Park to the cozy log hideaways favored in more settled areas, Walker takes readers on a tour of the state's picturesque outdoor facilities. In the process, he elevates the outhouse to an art form worthy of notice. As Jay Hammond, former Governor of Alaska, says in his foreword, "Perhaps no institution has contributed more to our democratization and development than this humble structure."

Wonderful book about something that really makes Alaska "Alaska." Fun stories and pictures!! Of course, I still prefer indoor plumbing, no matter how charming the outhouse is. Outhouses with a view even...? Dutch Doors and crescent moons. Who knew?

What an incredibly under-served topic in today's busy disposable world...outhouses.

This is a thoughtful, well written book about something that is ubiquitous in Alaska. The pictures are top-notch and just adds the perfect weight to the writing.
