One of the few keepers of my 70s "collection", Provey uses a structure he calls an X-frame, built from 2x4,6 or 8s depending on weight requirements. This frame is used to create sleeping, working and storage areas high off the floor to increase the amount of use one can get from a given space. Simple examples include a floating bed that's about 5' off the ground. Fairly extensive construction notes, you could build this stuff, even if you're a novice. Might be useful for small houses and other funky situations. There's a copy available on archive.org, if this interests you.
