If you’re looking for something fabulous and scandalous to read, you’re in the right spot. My new novel, “Love on Deathrow,” will be available on Amazon.com in Kindle and paperback. Books have always in my life either reading or writing them. I love to write from the woman point of view base on secrets exposed, love turned wrong and revenge. I started out being a self-published author of three books. "Sinful Traits" Published in 2000 by Published American then later two more books: Secret Affair and Holy Suspicious by Createspace. Now I write for Delphine Publication. You can expect every novel to be packed with mind-blowing twists that will make you get mad, laugh, cry, and talk out loud! I would love to explore my page.
Secret Affair is one of the worst books I have ever read. I'm not even sure where to begin. There was so much wrong with the book.
First of all, all the mistake drove me absolutely crazy. Normally, I don't mind a few mistakes in a book. I can usually overlook them and enjoy the story. However, Secret Affair had at least five to ten spelling and grammar errors per page (especially towards the end of the book) that made it impossible to focus on the story. Hell, even the cover had grammar issues (although I noticed that the cover has been fixed in later editions).
The synopsis also irritated me. It gives away the ending, which takes away from the anticipation of the story. If you read the synopsis before starting the story (as most people do), you aren't flipping through pages excitedly wondering what happens next because you already know. It's a complete vibe killer. Another thing that bothers me about the synopsis is that it says "He finally catches them together, but to his surprise Keisha’s secret was too unbearable to forgive!". It wasn't to his surprise. He knew that he intended to kill Keisha and her lover long before he followed them.
The last thing that I hated about this book is that I feel it promote violence towards women. Carter, the main character, beats his wife, rapes her, belittles her, and kills her. Yet all throughout the book, he never receives any punishment for his actions. In fact, he is almost looked at as a hero. It feels like the book is saying that everything he did was not only justifiable, but it was right. That's not cool with me.
I really disliked Secret Affair. It's very far and few in-between that a book gets a one star from me, but this book is getting one. I will not read another book by Melissa Love. I do not recommend this book to anyone.
Secret Affair surrounds Carter Perry, a doting husband (to Keisha Perry) and father of two. Carter's perfect world comes crashing in when he finds out that his wife is keeping a secret from him. He soon suspects that she is sleeping around with his younger brother, Donte. Carter then devises a plan to catch the two in the act and sets it in motion. This situation explodes when he finally gets the answers he was looking for.
Sadly, there is not much good I can say about this book. I was intrigued by the small amount of pages (75 actual pages of story), but was quickly disappointed. The book is riddled with errors from the cover all the way to the 10-page "preview" of the next book at the end. Normally, I can ignore a few dings here and there, but the sheer amount of errors was so distracting that I almost put the book down by page 13.
The plot idea was a good one, but was not followed through well at all. Most of the book was Carter harassing, accusing, abusing and debasing his wife off a hunch (he had no real proof of anything). All the while, he NEVER truly approached his brother Donte about the alleged betrayal. He just hinted around it in a threatening way when they were watching the game.
The short sex scenes were mainly Carter forcing himself, almost violently, on his screaming wife and calling her hateful names while he did it. I have read harsh sex scenes before and done the right way they can be very memorable. These were not. The author needs to "go there" and bring the readers all the way into what is happening. REALLY show us the emotions of the moment.
Finally, the book rounds out to the end and Carter's plan finally pays off for him. This brings about the ending that I will admit was unexpected, but it seemed very rushed and poorly executed. In actuality the entire book, ending and all, are all spelled out on the back of the book and in the synopsis!
In conclusion, I gave this book 1 star. I really feel the book would benefit from more back story and better development for the main characters. Also, expansion on the plot line and more realistic interactions between the characters. Of course, as I said before, a good editor/typesetter also. This book has tons of potential if reworked and tightened up a bit.
Carter Perry is a hardworking family man. Devoted to his wife and two children, he has a seemingly perfect life. Until one day, joking around with his friends and brother he starts to wonder that maybe his marriage isn't as perfect as he thinks.
His friend Curt has had to endure the heartbreak of his wife cheating on him - Jay is happy, as is Donte his brother, Kevin is the player of the group and maintains being single means a hassle free life. After discussing the signs that show your spouse is cheating, Carter can't help but mull over their conversation - is Keisha, his wife, seeing someone and if she is, who is it?
As a short story (68 pages) it doesn't take long discover that a) Keisha is in fact seeing someone and b) who it is. The story is fraught with emotion and you can easily understand Carter's pain and frustration when he asks then demands who Keisha is seeing. Love's use of language (it's set in Detroit) adds to the grittiness of the breakdown of this marriage. With it being so short, it doesn't delve into why Carter behaves the way he does or why Keisha cheated and I feel that it's a shame. What about their children? The impact on the family the affair has?
Overall, it's a great plot and Love has written a fast paced exciting, sometimes disturbing story of how far one man would go to find out who his wife is cheating with and how he remedies the solution in a violent way. If you have an hour to spare it's worth picking up.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author to review. The opinions expressed here are my own and I am not required to give a positive review.
There was never a dull moment when reading this book. With only 68 pages from beginning to end, Secret Affair will keep you turning page after page for a super-quick read.
Secret Affair was so easy to read in just one setting. There were a few typos that distracted from the reading, but other than that it was a pretty straight-forward book. Carter Perry is presented at first as a loving husband, and even after finishing the book I have to say it appears that he becomes a bit obsessed with finding out about his wife’s infidelity. If the book was just a tiny bit longer, then perhaps I could have sympathized more for Carter, who definitely had reason to be upset. It just seems a little too packed-together for my tastes. If you just want a real-quick read, this book is definitely worth looking into though.
I rated this book a five. I became entranced in the resolution of the story. Melissa Love did her thang. Ms. Love placed you right at the scene of all the action. Carter becomes obsessed to the point of snooping, accusations, rage, and violence. “Carter rationalized “I have to play my cards right before I jumped to any conclusion. I want to know when, where and most importantly why my wife is cheating.” The suspense build-up of the plot, led me up all night reading this book? Domestic Violence happens every day. Why do couples think they can change another person and why do they stay?
I enjoyed this novel. “Everybody has a secret, what's yours? I would suggest this book for book clubs, book lovers, everywhere and those healing from relationships.
First of all I have to say that Melissa's presentation of her book was beautiful and classy. I was really impressed with Melissa the author and the passion she has for her book.. Be prepared for a crude and gritty glimpse of a scandalous relationship. I will admit that this theme or language is not my cup of tea but I will share it with my adult daughters for their more open minded opinion. Thank you Melissa for writing the book..
Nice little story with a predictable twist with featured characters. Ending a little over the top as a conclusion had to be reached just to wrap story arc. Note:if you hate grammatical errors; skip this tale altogether
It was definitely interesting reading this story from the male's point of view. There were a few unexpected turns in the story however It for me only merits 2 stars.
There wasn't a dull moment in this book and Keisha was a trip! The ending caught me off guard! I love the Peppermint Candi at the end and I can't wait to read the full verison.
