I don't normally count the things I read for academic purposes on Goodreads, but I opened this book two days ago intending to briefly skim for a definition of "Eurostars" and then ended up devouring the whole thing. Incredibly interesting collection of tales of people who moved around Europe and their feelings on migration, integration, and laying down roots.

Not bad. I guess for some Eurostars (educated European workers) the freedom of mobility is amazing. If your nation’s economic hub is not actively promoting you, you can just travel to another European hub that is. This gives the hubs or Eurocities a distinct cosmopolitan feel that you may be able to belong to. Will you ever feel like a part of the local nation, probably not and that will provide a bit of alienation, especially when you are around less cosmopolitan and more insular groups. At the same time, it feels like Europe is becoming more like the US, with pockets of insular identities, where no newcomers are welcome but the educated young adults able to resettle near industrial clusters in big cities
