Blonde women are being murdered at Otter Cliffs. Meanwhile, park ranger Rico and Kim the paramedic are dipping their toes into a romantic relationship after a years long friendship. A love story in the beautiful backdrop of nature, the climax of the story is immersive, chock full of adrenaline, emotion, and suspense. One to remember for sure.
REVIEW: OTTER CLIFFS (RANGERS OF ACADIA) BY Kari Lemor
Sooo, y’all I gave you a taste of this book yesterday, well now here is the full story…..
I loved, loved, loved Jordan Pond where we meet Rico and I fell in love with him - like down the rabbit hole love with him…..
Otter Cliffs is his story — and let me tell you, I fell even more in love with him. His devotion to Kim was something out of a fairy tale - but this book is not a fairy tale. There is a richness and deepness to this story… the suspense is palatable, and I didn’t know until the last 20 pages who the bad guy was…. And trust me I tried to figure it out.
This is a testament to the amazing writing ability of Kari! She is so versatile and multi-faceted- so amazingly talented.
This story will reasonate with you, the way Kari builds this relationship from 0 was done with such reverence, Kim has some issues, she had been controlled and sheltered her whole life by her father and brothers, she needed her independence, needed to have a life that was her own, needed to survive on her own…. Rico understood the assignment!
Rico and Kim’s friendship developed over time, it blossomed into a deep respect and love!
Kari built such an amazing story and I couldn’t help but fall in love even deeper.
NOTE: At first I wasn’t a fan of Kim, thought she was a bit too independent (yes that can be a thing), I thought she didn’t appreciate Rico - but then you find out her story and man I loved her at the end of the day.
Check out the Rangers of Acadia series and all the other books by Kari — she is definitely a talent you do not want to miss.
Kim & Rico often find themselves in tandem situations as part of the Search and Rescue team for Mount Desert Island Maine. As part of a team, they’ve become friends and spend time together off duty as well, but sometimes, friends become more. Kim loves her job as a paramedic and enjoys her life on the island. Of course, being part of an overprotective male family makes it harder some days to enjoy her little spot of heaven, even from a distance. Rico has used the island as his solitude and sanctuary to help quite the memories and demons from an accident in the service and is really growing fond of his job as an Arcadia National Forest Ranger. The longer the friendship progresses, the more they realize they have growing feelings for each other. But having to help retrieve a dead body, once again, is not something that’s very conducive to being in a romantic mood. When it looks like a pattern is emerging, and Kim fits the killer’s profile, both Rico and her family set out to protect her. But being independent is foremost in Kim’s mind, and she doesn’t see any reason to panic until there is.
Otter Cliffs, by Kari Lemor, is the second book in the author’s new Rangers of Acadia series. Taking place once again in the well-known setting of Bar Harbor, Maine this book focuses on the relationship between park ranger, Rico and paramedic, Kim. They have developed a friendship over the years after crossing paths on medical incidents in the parks, but both are beginning to develop stronger feelings. Over the course of the book, you become aware how their pasts are holding them back from taking that final step from friendship into a committed relationship. Lemor gives the reader more than just a romance, this book also has a suspenseful secondary plot happening that leaves the reader quickly turning the pages to find out who is responsible for the deaths occurring around Otter Cliffs. Although this is a stand-alone novel, it is highly recommended that you read Jordan Pond as well especially if you are a fan of the beauty of Bar Harbor.
A beautiful story following the evolution of friendship to love for Kim and Rico. The story definitely kept me guessing in relation to the culprit for some Search and Rescue incidents that Kim and Rico participated in during the story. I would rather that the way the culprit was unveiled near the end of the story was different for the characters' sake but also recognise it just wouldn't have carried the same oomph if that had truly happened.
I loved the involvement of Theo and Chelsea's family (the main characters of the prior Rangers of Acadia book Jordan Pond). I have to smile that Jordan from that prior book is just as much of a presence in this book.
I'm looking forward to seeing if the author releases another book in the Rangers of Acadia series, and if so whether the main characters end up being Angie and James.
this was not as well written as the first book. I almost DNF with all the childish flirting and no storyline progression, but it finally picked up about half way through. the narration was pretty rough, too. that baby voice for Jordan? she's FIVE!
