I really enjoyed this book. I've only ever visited the San Juans once on a day trip, but have always wanted to visit. This book really gave me a lot of history and good planning information for a future visit to the islands. The copy I have was published in 1983 so a few of the things are or may be outdated, such as size and condition of the campgrounds.
I'm not a boater, so I was mainly interested in the hiking camping information. The book has good information for hiking and biking and land activities but has better and more detailed information for boaters, like how many mooring buoys are available, which locations had good seabed for anchoring, where are submerged rocks, water distance to locations from the nearest boat launch, etc..
I enjoyed this book and learned a lot about the San Juan islands, both the history and geography. The only issue I encountered was that the maps are a little wonky.. I loved that they were hand drawn and liked the style, but the "north up" convention is not used at all, so that was a bit confusing at times, and also the text descriptions of hiking trails was difficult to correlate to the maps..
