This was my main Chess text for a long time; it covers the opening, middlegame and endgame clearly and in a conversational style.

Nostalgic journey to he chess of the early career of Short from about 40 years ago. I enjoy the book and revisiting some of the games of yesteryear, even though Nigel Short was a 1.e4 guy, not something I play unless forced. Pity the book does not begin to hint at the Cold War framework in which much of the chess at the highest levels was played, but the book stayed through to the promise of the title.
