There is a b & w photo of Mr. Goldfarb on the cover of my book, if it IS him; a large imposing man, he is dressed in an indigenous South American(?) poncho, or pullover. He has a full beard, and a knitted cap, or else a head of fuzzy hair. Interesting looking.
This is a book of prose poetry, with about three or four poems that I liked, my average for a poetry book. I did not care for the cruder references to f---ing or his personal references / episodes with various wives / girlfriends. Here are a couple that I liked.
"The Pig Is Not Singing
At dawn / I am on / the terrace/ watching a man/ and a pig / walk below me/ in the street. The pig has a rope/ around his neck / but the man/ is not holding it. Why should he? The pig is / walking perfectly / confortably / beside him / making them look like two old pals / going off / to a common task. Besides / the man / is singing a difficult / flamenco / tune / and could / not be bothered / with holding on / to a pig. The pig is not singing/ but keeps pace / as the rope / trails behind."
Lovely! Not in America, perhaps Spain? Interesting vignette!
"Brancusi's Workshop
The sculpture collection / containing / the workshop / of that weird / Rumanian / Brancusi / was closed on Sunday / but outside in / the courtyard an / old man was / rollerskating / to the music / of his own / portable / tape recorder / which he had / brought with him / for the purpose/ only: to dance / formally with / the tiniest / movements of / the hands and / feet on roller / skates as children / and worshippers / of modern art / like myself looked / on stunned in the / courtyard outside / Brancusi's / workshop on Sunday / afternoon across / the river from / the Eiffel Tower."
Again, what a picture! Some senior citizen quietly dancing to himself, listening only to his own music perhaps, and children and Mr. Goldfarb watching, quietly, yet "stunned." And in France yet. Very good!
"In Our Various Attitudes" "And Other More Isolate Places"? Meh!
