With the help of some animal friends, Kibu, a young member of the East African Masai tribe, decides to prove that he is not too small to be a mighty lion hunter.
My almost-five-year-old son picked this book out from the library today. He can read a few words, but hardly any of them in this book, so we read it the traditional way.
My son was first drawn to the cover of this book. Not surprising, really, it is very eye-catching. He also has almost an entire shelf of Bob Staake-illustrated and/or -written books in the bookcase in his bedroom.
Even though we didn't get the full benefit of this book because I read all of it, it was still a great story that was very well told. I admire authors who can write real stories in Easy Reader format. The artwork, of course, was spectacular. Since the illustrations are why my son picked up the book in the first place, he was not disappointed.
I love the "We Both Read" concept. When he is reading a few more words, we will be adding some of those to his library.
