The documentation of practice is one of the principle concerns of performance studies. Focusing on contemporary performance practice and with emphasis on the transformative impact of video, photography and writing, this book explores the ideological, practical, and representational implications of knowing performance through its documentations.
A comprehensive and thorough examination of the challenges of documenting live performance, especially physical theatre and live art. It was written recently enough to examine the value of video as well as photography and critical writing as archival documents of performance. It usefully draws on the ideas of many theorists and practitioners.
Excellent overview of the major issues and theorists writing today. Covers much of the current theatre on offer, perhaps a little light on the more digital prodouctions but that's a minor quibble.
