I’d give 4.5.The dying man’s regrets” section set death and eternity before the reader, while lifting their gaze to the glory of spiritual realities in Christ. Edifying read. “Teach us to number our days…”
Excellent book on Christian doctrines, living and practice by Adolphe Monod. It is considered a nineteenth-century spiritual classic. It consists of small farewell sermons of the dying renowned pastor in the Reformed Church of France. He was suffering from terminal cancer and each Sunday he delivered those sermons to a group of his friends who gathered around his bed to hear him preach and partake of the Lord’s Supper with him. This book is worth reading and giving it away to friends. These sermons covers such topics as praying, reading the Scriptures, improving our use of time, suffering, death, resurrection, the love of God, the gospel and others.
This is a phenomenal lesser-known book to read, written by a pastor on his death bed. Truly amazing perspective. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I found the first couple sections a little slow. If re-reading it, I'd skip to the last two sections and focus there.
