Anne McAllister has written nearly 70 romance novels for Tule Publishing and Harlequin Books.
She has won two RITA awards from the Romance Writers of America — for COWBOY PRIDE and THE STARDUST COWBOY — and has had nine other books which were RITA finalists.
Her books have also been finalists for the National Readers’ Choice Award. She was named Midwest Fiction Writers “Writer of the Year” and also received Romantic Times’ Career Achievement Award as “Series Author of the Year.”
But while the awards and sales are wonderful, Anne thinks the best part of writing is telling the story. With every new book she writes, she meets new characters – or gets to know old ones even better – and discovers what makes them and their relationships tick.
It’s the relationships that interest her most and the question about “where do you get your ideas?” has always astonished her as she has more ideas than she knows what to do with!
This book had the typical HP drama, an OW, a heroine with a tendency to misunderstand but I still enjoyed it. In college the heroine almost fell for a womanizing guy out for a good time, so she chose the safe route, dated a lawyer for two years and is now engaged to him, yet she is heading out for a job, away for a year, it is to clear her head and be sure that, it what she wants. Sadly when she gets to the job she doesn't find her employer, instead she finds the hero who is a cousin of her employer and sick with malaria. She stays even when he tells her to leave and he gets her blood running, so she keeps reminding herself of her ex and he fiancée who she doesn't miss. Hero has a vamp ex-gf on the scene and asks her to save him, it is kind of obvious that he is using it as an excuse to show her that her engagement is all wrong but she doesn't see it that way. She ends her engagement doesn't tell him, he goes away, she pines for him, OW tries to tell lies, he comes back, HEA. Despite the HP drama I liked the book.
In this banter filled romance, our recently engaged h travels to Wisconsin for a new job, only to realize her employers have left, leaving a grumpy H there instead. He is sick, annoyed and delirious with malaria, and in the time he does not flirt or growl at her, he spends vomiting and in throes of fever. The h ends up being his caretaker, falling for the charming man, while he soon pretends she is his fiance when his ex enters the scene. Will the h break her engagement with OM and give in to the H?
Well written romance with loads of back and forth as well as OM/OW drama between the h and H. It is very obvious that both of them are smitten, yet keep fighting their feelings. Enjoyed in parts.

Dare to Trust - Harlequin Romance, No 2721 by Anne McAllister
Anna Douglas is engaged to Richard Howell. The only reason she said yes, she could not think of a good reason not to. She takes a teaching job in Wisconsin. She plans to live in the home of Professor William Fielding and his teenage daughter. That is not who she finds at the house.
Colin Davies is the Professors cousin and had to come home he has malaria and is extremely ill. He sent a letter to cancel the house guest. Between being sick and weak as a kitten he hasn't the strength to throw her out, so she stays. And the fun begins.
