As Barry Richmond points out, we're good at Knowlege Management, but we're poor at Understanding Management. I think It is still valid today after so many years the author stated that for the first time. There's certain path from data to wisdom, and Richmond tried to fill the gaps.
When I started working on systems dynamics for several years ago this book was very useful. It has clear, logic and step by step guidance, as well as quite a few good theoretical points (I returned to this book to revisit some of them). There are many examples, which are a really good starting point for a beginner building models - in all fields of applications. It was really fun to build some simple models by following provides examples.
The book is oriented towards the users of iThink or STELLA systems dynamics software. However, even if you don't have it, it is still very useful to read it through. The example models are generic and you can set up models with any other package, for example in Simulink or GoldSIM.
