What is a virus ? “ it is piece of bad news wrapped in a protein”. A very timely read in today’s time, gives a background on the various milestones right from finding a cure of smallpox to rabies to polio to research on AIDS. A good book for non molecular biologist to read.

Sadly, later discovered on the internet that the author passed away in 2009 due to cancer.

As a layperson, this book took a long time to get through, but it was worth it. It is a great book if you are interested in learning about the makeup of the star germs within the pages. The author gives a very detailed and impressive account of the structure of certain viruses, like Hepatitis, Polio, and HIV, as well as the history of virology and vaccinology. Excellent!
