Real Elves Don't Make Cookies. If there is one thing Gwendolyn Fox hates more than sunlight and stakes, it's elves. There's a good reason why vampires and elves avoid one another; it's because they don't mix well. Hunter is an elf, but like none she's ever met. Rugged and mischievous, Hunter sparks an immediate reaction in Gwen that she struggles to resist. Try as she might to keep her concentration on the missing girl, Gwen falls victim to Hunter's devilish charm and seductive nature. He's tall, dark, and dangerous. He's everything she never expected of an elf and everything she's attracted to in a man. An expert on breaking and entering, Hunter has the means to get Gwen into the facility where the child is being held. During their encounters with otherworldly villains, the magnetism between them becomes too much to be ignored. Despite her instant attraction, Gwen is determined to keep things between herself and Hunter completely professional. Hunter, on the other hand, is determined to seduce his stubborn and guarded vampire partner. Together, they'll strive to rescue the imprisoned girl and save the local supernatural community from a vicious werewolf pack. But to do that, Gwen needs to stop Hunter from distracting her. She must find a way to cool her sizzling partner, or be consumed by the flames. About the Melissa Hosack Melissa Hosack lives near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with her husband Jeremy and their four Duke, Edge, Eddie, and Leia. She writes a monthly short story column titled Frequent Flyer for a government newspaper and had a short story, More Bark Than Bite, published by Mystic Moon Press in September of 2008.
In the opening, the heroine, Gwendolyn, is beating up a bad guy while talking on a cell phone. Need I say more? She's a vampire with a tough exterior and a definite chip on her shoulder.
Elves are one of the reasons for Gwendolyn's grudge against the world. She can't stand them, not at all. Enter our hero, Hunter. He's gorgeous, of course. He's also the kind of guy that could sweep any girl straight off her feet. Oh, he's also an elf.
The sparks fly between these two right away, but the arguments aren't the only reason. There's also a fierce, instant attraction. Yep, light a match and the room might ignite in flames.
With a little suspense as the cherry on top of the romance, this story is very sweet and funny. It is far from the dark, typical plot you expect from a book in the paranormal genre. I enjoyed the change of pace.
Gwendolyn Fox is a vampire with a special hatred of elves. So imagine her disgust when the need to rescue a little girl throws her into a reluctant teaming with Hunter Price, an elf.
Hunter is an expert at breaking and entering, and his skills are needed. Gwen isn’t happy about it, but she knows that she can’t turn Hunter away. Besides, it’s not like he fits the typical elf stereotypes. He certainly isn’t a fragile, hippie-dippy kind of guy.
Actually, he’s a mechanic. And he’s quite easy on the eyes, to Gwen’s chagrin. Because even her contempt for elves can’t sway her attraction to Hunter.
It’s an enjoyable set-up, the love-hate relationship between vampire Gwen and elf Hunter. Gwen is kind of like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, only with fangs. She’s sarcastic, single-minded, and can be quite a chore to be around. And Hunter is well… Hunter just sounds hot as heck.
The best part of the story is that you aren’t smacked upside the head with the otherworldly. There is nothing that pulls me out of a story faster than overwrought mystical scene-setting. There’s a good sense of balance to the supernatural in Melissa Hosack’s storytelling. Gwen and Hunter could almost be your everyday Jane and Joe Shmoe. Or at least a Jane and Joe Shmoe who go up against werewolves on occasion.
So clearly, their special attributes come in handy. And make for a unique romantic pairing. One I think you'll enjoy.

This is the second published works of Melissa Hosack following the charming 'More Bark Than Bite' published in 2008. Gwen is a vampire, a tough vampire with a tough exterior & an inner vulnerability that keeps people & colleagues at arms length, I really enjoyed the opening salvo & fighting scene. Written in the first & second person, it is mainly a paranormal love story between Gwen & the very different male protagonist Hunter who is an Elf. A little girl is kidnapped by a dispicable werewolf pack - Hunter is the only one who has any chance of getting Gwen in & out. All her suppositions regarding elves are turned upside down when she actually meets him, & maybe elves are not too bad after all. Funny, light & entertaining it's not a deep read & the plot comes secondry, some parts just glossed over, the strength is the developing relationship between the two protagonists. A feel good quick read, with the odd dark undertone throughout. Loved the fantasy world MH depicted & the characters are individual, but light on the actual plot concept. A book that will make you smile, easy escapism, with surpising character traits that you do not usually see in this genre.
