Francesca Simon grew up in California and attended both Yale and Oxford Universities, where she specialised in Medieval Studies. How this prepared her to write children’s books she cannot imagine, but it did give her a thorough grounding in alliteration.

She then threw away a lucrative career as a medievalist and worked as a freelance journalist, writing for the Sunday Times, Guardian, Mail on Sunday, Telegraph, and Vogue (US). After her son Joshua was born in 1989, she started writing children’s books full time. One of the UK’s best-selling children’s writers, Francesca has published over 50 books, including the immensely popular HORRID HENRY series, which has now sold over twelve million copies.

Francesca won the Children’s Book of the Year in 2008 at the British Book Awards for Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman. HORRID HENRY is published in 24 countries and is also an animated CITV series. She lives in London with her husband, son, and Tibetan Spaniel, Shanti.

I have kind of resigned myself to the fact that given the attraction of the iPad and iPhone, kids prefer books that are a lot more off-the-wall and unconventional. See here, The Parent Swap Shop by the author of the wildly popular Horrid Henry series. It was my very first introduction to Simon and it was a good one. Imagine going to a shop to swap out your parents?! My girls were hooked. (spoiler) Fortunately Ava realizes at the end that her own parents are still the best fit. I read somewhere that well-behaved kids also love to read about naughty ones. Seeing that my father gave me my first chapter book : Enid Blyton's The Naughtiest Girl in the School at age 7, and it set me off on a reading rampage, I absolutely agree!

I enjoyed this book a lot!

Summary: Ava is sick and tired of her parents aways demanding her to do stuff that she does not care about. For an example, do her homework, use a knife and fork, she hates it. So when she found an advertising Poster, she had no doubts she was all in. But after she swapped for different parents she realized that she wanted her parents but with boundaries.

I liked it because it was a different kind of book to what I read. I loved that there were pictures and words because they told the story together and you could see what she was thinking in her head.

For me there was no low lights I definitely would read this book again.
