The Skeptic: An Occult Thriller

Rate this book
There's such a thing as being too smart for your own good and Harry Dobbs is about to find that out.Thirty-two-year-old Harry Dobbs is a skeptic. Literally. He makes his living debunking fake psychics, exposing faux miracle workers, and preventing healers from scamming innocent people. When Harry gets hired by the Catholic Church to go undercover in a quaint New Hampshire town and assess the inner-workings of a religious cult, he figures it'll be easy money. But what he first thought would be a simple debunking job turns far more sinister. The cult is hiding a dark secret, something worse than Harry could ever have imagined. And if Harry uncovers their secret, he may inadvertently unleash something into the world that was never meant to be released. As it turns out, being a skeptic might not just cost Harry his job, it might cost him everything--including his soul. The Skeptic is a chilling kindle occult thriller in the tradition of Stephen King. BONUS The first two chapters of Aaron Niz's hit novel COMPELLED

"Show, don't tell." Isn't that what every Middle School English teacher tried to tell us? The characters in this book were one dimensional, the plot was thin, and the ending was vague and disappointing. Good premise and a promising start were the only redeeming features of this one.

after reading I could only say one word. "ehh"

not a bad book, just not something I'd pay for. characters are bland, have a straight forward personality and leaves you with virtually no connection with the characters. The book is slow to start, picks up in the middle and then plummets at the end. if it were a trilogy or series I could get into it, but seeing as its a novel, I was left disappointed.

do not buy unless its cheap (.99 on amazon of digital would be acceptable) if its free, suck it up or don't read it, your choice

It took a while to get moving with this one. Spelling and grammar errors were plentiful and distracting. The twists weren't all that they could have been. My book club members seemed to like it much more than I did. Rather than place a spoiler I'd say, if you can borrow it, it's not a total waste of time.

it's okay, wanted a horror story but not many chills from this one...wasn't even sure it had ended when it ended

This book was...ok. Not my favorite. The ending was weird. The cover was scarier than the book itself! The concept has been done before.

I love the story and the characters. Sadly, though, grammar and spelling errors were quite distracting for me at certain points. Somebody hire this author an editor!

Liked it, was predictable towards the end and the middle got boring, but once it picked up after the lull in the middle it was enjoyable.
