Telling Images: Selections from the Bader Gift of European Paintings to Queen's University/Images révélatrices: Les tableaux européens du don Bader à l’Université Queen’s

It was a curious accident of history that found Alfred Bader enrolling in November 1941 at Queen’s University. It is from that accident that the Art Centre at Queen’s has benefited from the gifts of old master paintings that Alfred and his wife Isabel have presented. Alfred, as a valued and loving alumnus and former Trustee, has seen a great deal of change in his alma mater, both in his chosen discipline of chemistry and his avocation, art. At Queen’s we have a unique situation, with the combination of an art history and studio programme, alongside the country’s only master’s programme in art conservation, replete with a significant art museum. Alfred and Isabel Bader wish to see this uniqueness fostered and encouraged, and they have been doing their best for many years to assist not only in the gifting of pictures but morally and financially as well. It is a trust we at the Art Centre honor. The exhibition is drawn upon those gifts, thirty-six paintings drawn from almost 100 in the collection now.

This is a re-read review. My third time reading the series, first time reading them all back to back.   Kindle Version in case anyone is wondering.

 

Of course this starts with a bunch of anxiety that builds and builds and builds and then (SPOILER) the Weasley’s rescue Harry in spectacular form. Seriously, even though this is my third time reading it, it put a huge ass grin on my face.  Harry’s parting line to the Dursley’s is fantastic. And I love how Harry loves The Weasley’s house. And of course the way Ron and Harry arrive at Hogwarts this year is totally classic.  And of course the Mandrakes are freaking awesome.   Love it when Dobby gets set free. And poor Hermoine and Ginny!

Characters:  I want to smack Lockhart, he is seriously annoying.  Dobby is annoying but he grows on you.

Just as good as the first one, and I’m glad  reread it though anxiety sky rocked in several places. When I’m done with World After, I think I’m on to the third one.
