A fun winter themed mystery for Kate and Sydney to solve. Trying to figure out what is causing the problems at the creamery was interesting and the ending and culprit were a good fit for the mystery along with a good lesson to learn. Sydney's attitudes bugged me a bit in the book but that was my only complaint about the story. A good read for girls in this age group.

Genre: Children’s fiction

Series: Camp Club Girls #10

Age recommendation: 9-11(+)

Summary: Kate (and Sydney) are in Vermont at Kate’s aunt’s house for the Christmas break. While there, Kate wants to do some research for a report she’s doing for science class. When the factory she’s studying starts having problems with rats, Kate wonders if this is sabotage.

My thoughts: I didn’t like Sydney’s focus on how little she should eat, nor Kate’s bemoaning how much she eats. I think this ends up implying to girls that they’re not allowed to eat normal amounts of food because they need to stay slim. Obviously, we need to take care of our bodies and not overeat, but I think there’s enough pressure from social media and society in general without adding these kinds of unhealthy ideas into books.

I liked the Christian content. As with the previous Kate book, there is a lot said about God and trusting Him. The girls also pray (prayers are actually written out) and often quote bible verses; this book was centered around Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

I liked that Biscuit the Wonder Dog was just like a family pet and not made into a super sleuth. In some of the other books they try to turn Biscuit into more than he is and it’s really annoying. In this book, Biscuit was just the cute family dog.

The ending is quite unrealistic

The story was pretty fun to read; one of the better books in the series.

My personal rating: 4/5 stars.

This book was set in Vermont, which made it all snowy and cozy, which in turn made me happy. Aunt Molly and Uncle Ollie were The Best and I loved how sweet and godly they were. I also really like cheese XD. The crime/mystery was also a 'bigger deal' mystery, and I enjoyed seeing how they solved it, even though the ending reason wasn't necessarily that big of a deal.

I am reviewing this book for NetGalley.

Kate’s Vermont Venture centers on Kate and Sydney, two girls of the Camp Girls Club. Both of them are in Vermont for their Christmas break. Kate is doing a science report on the Mad River Creamery, but her report is interrupted when she discovers a rat in the creamery during a tour. It is revealed that this isn’t the first incident that has occurred. Kate and Sydney quickly realize that someone is trying to sabotage the creamery after Kate’s family talk about how nice the owners of the creamery are. The suspects are a couple that the girls encounter when on a second tour of the creamery where another rat is discovered. Also, Sydney decides to enter a skiing competition so she can earn money to go to a missionary trip in Mexico. However, Sydney and Kate meet a boy, Michael, who is also competing. The girls often say they have a bad feeling about Michael. Learning to forgive people is also a main component of this Christian book for young adults. Who would want to sabotage the creamer? Will Sydney get the money she needs for her trip?
