A fine travel book that covers the 175-mile route from Gettysburg, PA to Charlottesville, VA, scene to many Civil War events. I've heard of this trail many times in association with the ongoing 150th anniversary of Civil War events. I live in the area and was curious to see how detailed the coverage is. I found the book pleasant and easy to read, providing the essential details without weighing me down. It also throws in some good stops just slightly off the path, including cute small towns, places to eat or picnic, an interesting church, covered bridges, etc. I jotted down a few places I've missed seeing so that I can put them on my list of things to do with a free day or couple of days. A very enjoyable read. And surprise! a foreward by Geraldine Brooks, (former) resident of one of the amazing tiny towns along the way.
