I get that when an author portrays a hero or heroine’s profession there will be details that the author will get wrong, sometimes for expediency, sometimes for interest (do you know how boring practicing law actually is?!), or for other reasons. Sometimes I can look beyond the screwy details, but there are times that I can not. Probably my biggest pet peeve is when the behavior of the character would violate the professional ethics of that profession. That’s one big reason I can’t get past chapter three in this book which I otherwise might have enjoyed.

Jane, our heroine, is a Ph.D psychologist who makes her living as a “life coach.” Lenny, our hero, is a professional football player who bombed inexplicably in his most recent super bowl and has withdrawn from the game, his careers, and his endorsement contracts to the mountains. His agent hires Jane to bring him back to the living. And Jane has also contracted with a national magazine to write an expose on Lenny. Whoa! Seriouslly???! Even if the agent is paying the bills, any licensing authority would see Lenny as the client in this situation. And she’s contracted to write an expose on him. Jane justifies it in her mind by claiming she’ll disguise certain details.
No! No! No! There’s no realm in which this is ethical.

And that’s not even getting to the issue of her sleeping with a patient/client, which violates the law in many states.

Seriously, how do these books get beyond concept?! Wow. Sorry, but I can’t read any further.

slow start, got better about halfway in. not my favorite type of book, a little too much angst and anger and BIG issues for my taste

Read this book appr. a week ago. I don't remember it the plot at all...not a good sign. I'll try to read it again & re-evaluate this review.
