Common Trees

Rate this book
This book is about the amazing variety and beauty of Indian trees, their many functions and uses. Those discussed are mostly the common roadside or avenue trees easily spotted such as the Banyan, the Peepal, the Shisham, the Jackfruit tree, etc. and a great majority of them are indigenous to the country though a few exotics have also been taken up. Even these latter are common now all over the country and have adapted themselves well to Indian conditions.

An eminent botanist and a former Director of the Botanical Survey of India, Rev. Fr. H. Santapau (1903-1970) came to India in 1928 after a distinguished career in Europe. He made notable discoveries in his special field, and was a member of numerous lerned societies in India and abroad. He was also the Editor of the Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society for many years.

A comprehensive guide of, as the name suggests, trees of India. The writing was in similar structure for all types. I loved knowing each of the trees. From popular to rare the author has included all kinds. It's best to keep checking out the pictures in Google though since most but not all illustrations are in black and white. Great short read for anyone interested in learning about trees around them or all over India.
