The author's new preface includes an update on pragmatism studies in general and on Mead studies in particular.

George Herbert Mead's works are a hidden treasure in both philosophy and radical politics. He is known narrowly as the founder of social psychology with his theory of the self as social for the git go, and how its internal contradiction between the 'I' and the 'me' unfold over time and conflict to shape who we are and who we are becoming. You can't get a good understanding of consciousness, including class consciousness, without it. He's a deep thinker on other philosophical matters as well.
