Helmut Sakowski was a German author, politician and cultural functionary.
He grew up in Thuringia, and was a POW during World War II. After the founding of the East German socialist state, he became a politician on the local level, and a writer.
His work is mostly dedicated to showing readers the life of the "common man", like in his Klevenow trilogy. After the German Reunification in 1990, he concentrated more on children's literature.
