This is really two books in one. Famous bigfoot filmographer Roger Patterson's original book, Do Abominable Snowmen of America Really Exist?, is no longer in print -- so it is a lot of fun to see it reproduced here. There's really nothing of earth-shattering magnitude in its content, as it was more or less a scrapbook of magazine and news clippings Patterson had collected. Two things really stood out to me, though: The full text of Ivan Sanderson's original article on the 1958 Jerry Crew footprint finds, and Roger Patterson's AWESOME illustrations. Seriously, if you are into bigfoot history and you buy this book, his Ape Canyon drawings alone make it worth the purchase price.

Researcher Chris Murphy's analysis of the Patterson-Gimlin film follows for the second part of the book, in which he records the reactions of the scientific community to the film. He offers a solid analysis and several good quality, full-page frames reproduced from the famous film.

I discovered "The BIGFOOT Film Controversy" by Roger Patterson and Christopher Murphy while on a recent vacation to Oregon. The book was nestled on a rotating, metal book shelf at Godfather's Books in Astoria, Oregon. The image of a big, hairy creature tromping through the forests of northern California immediately popped into my head, having seen the footage many, many times when I was a kid on the California coast. It was cool to see that there are people out there, unlike me, he never forgot that infamous footage. After reading the book, most of which I read at the coffee, soup counter at Godfather's, I realized that the creature is just as big a deal today as it was back in the day. In Oregon, the creature remains a popular facet of the state's mythology today. After reading the book, I nearly became a believer myself!
