The authors, affiliated with the Integrated Media Systems Center (U. of Southern California), expanded a research monograph into a textbook for courses on advanced digital audio coding techniques. The first part covers basic topics on digital audio compression, including psychoacoustic models and sound quality assessment. The next part features the most prevalent low-bit-rate high-performance standards capable of supporting multichannel signals (e.g., the original MPEG-2 AAC technology).
