When celebrity broadcaster and columnist Kerre Woodham became the Short Fat Chick who runs marathons, she changed lives. Hugely successful, her first book is now followed by a funny, inspiring and devastatingly honest continuation of her personal story. This time Kerre shares more of her physical and emotional journey through a life lived out loud - the highs and lows of a woman who has privately battled flab, the piss fairy and depression behind a public life of glitz and glamour. After the euphoria of the New York Marathon, Kerre set her sights on London - and failed miserably. Did that stop her? Hell no. With training and personal weight-loss programmes designed for her by long-term trainer, friend and co-author, Gareth (aka Gaz) Brown, the Short Fat Chick decided to go French. With a group of friends and fellow runners, Kerre went to Paris... nothing will ever be the same.
Ok, this book was EXACTLY what I needed to be reading in the final days before Trailwalker. Funny and inspiring, it was lighthearted enough to make me laugh (repeatedly), but with enough substance to remind me that whether or not I complete this year's 100km walk is in my control.
The only question at the back of my mind is whether "The bastard is NOT going to beat me again" us going to be powerful enough to keep me going the whole 100k, or whether I'll need something more when that begins to fade...
Kerre's books are a blast to read! I love how ugly and truthful the beginning was, and the story of how she turned it all around. It's awesome to hear not just life's triumphs, but it's struggles also. It is good to know when you are at the bottom of the hill in life, and looking up that steep climb that it's not impossible and to just take it one step at a time.
I am inspired to run again, having been a wee bit slack!! Kerre is funny to read, she makes me laugh, and reminds me that anyone can run. Lets see if I can run the half in February after all!
