A well-known science writer and an award-winning illustrator collaborate on an in-depth study of the jellyfish, its anatomy, life cycle, and environment, and its painful sting
Have been reading some olden series titles that are still around in some libraries, many actually are rebound volumes. This particular title in the Let’s Read and Find out Science Books series doesn’t seem to hold up as well as some of the other titles in the series. However, I learned some basic info about jellyfish that they were around prior to dinosaurs, there are three thousand types of jellyfish some of which are minute creatures and some are extremely large. Also there is one off the coast of Australia that is very dangerous to humans and sometimes in a summer season kills more people than sharks.
The Portuguese Man o' War did not get its name because it looks like the helmet of a soldier. Rather, it looks like a sailing ship. Apparently this isn't even really a jellyfish - it's a colony of animals, as explained on p.21. I just wish p.18 were accurate.
