Ana María Moix is one of the most innovative and entertaining writers in Spain today. Her writings include children’s literature, poetry, novels, and short stories; her work has been praised throughout Europe and the Americas for its stylistic innovations, witty, satiric spirit, and feminist themes and fervor. The five stories collected in Dangerous Virtues ( Las virtudes peligrosas ), each varying greatly in style and substance, are among Moix’s most remarkable writings. About the author

Ana María Moix Meseguer nació en Barcelona el año 1947. Estudió Filosofía y Letras en la Universidad de Barcelona, y fue la única mujer inlcuida en la antología que José María Castellet realizó en 1970 titulada "los nueve novísimos. Escribió en catalán y castellano desde ensayo y poesía hasta novela y crónica de viajes.

Su hermano Terenci Moix la llamaba "la nena" y con ese apodo se quedó dentro de la gauche divine, la escena de la que formaba parte.

Entre sus poemarios destacan "Baladas del Dulce Jim", "Call me Stone" y "No time for flowers". Entre sus novelas, "De mi vida real nada sé".

Además de eso, también destacó en su labor como traductora. Traspasó al castellano textos franceses de autores de la talla de Beckett, Marguerite Duras, Françoise Sagan entre otros. Dentro del mundo editorial puso su conocimiento literario dirigiendo colecciones en Plaza & Janés y como directora en Bruguera.

El 28 de febrero de 2014, teniendo 66 años de edad, falleció en Barcelona a causa de un cáncer.

El primer relato llamado “Las virtudes peligrosas” es excelente: intrigante de principio a fin, tan romántico como trágico y con reminiscencias de Retrato de una mujer en llamas posiblemente. El resto de relatos fácilmente olvidables por no decir mediocres.
