Definitely a little dated at this point, but what can you expect from a book that's over 40 years old? (The hardcover edition I read was published in 1979.) I picked up a copy of this book because I wanted to see what has -- and hasn't -- changed about our attitudes toward midlife over that period of time. My conclusion? While we've made some progress in terms of reimagining what's possible for midlife women, we still have a long way to go. Midlife is anything but an ending. It's a beginning in so many ways. (I'm researching a midlife book of my own right now, which is why I'm so fascinated by midlife narratives.)
