A useful resource, especially if you're tight on time for language studies, and/or you have no idea where to begin. Hawke starts you with two resources: a phrasebook and a dictionary - and offers additional suggestions from there, but doesn't require them. This would be a fantastic experiment to do with a foreign language you only have 30 days to become functional in (rush expatriation/move/long-term business trip/meetings/etc).

A concise methodology for learning new languages. In practice, not the easiest of methods, and it works better for romance and Germanic languages, but definitely a good start for those who are interested in gaining proficiency in more than one language.
