Mark Strand was a Pulitzer Prize-winning American poet, essayist, and translator. He was appointed Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress in 1990. He was a professor of English at Columbia University and also taught at numerous other colleges and universities.
Strand also wrote children's books and art criticism, helped edit several poetry anthologies and translated Spanish poet Rafael Alberti.
This book is written by Mark Strand, not Max Strand. If the good people of goodreads read this, please edit. Like Mark Strand's book Hopper, this book is about looking at art. Strand is such an excellent wordsmith, I learn so much about observing and describing what I see from reading his books. I would highly recommend this very short book for anyone interested in understanding the art of William Bailey and, more importantly to me, reading a master of perception and description.
