Rate this book
In 1848, Preacher Paul Crane throws suspected witch Ellen Bridges down a well. Enraged, her young grandson and his friends push him after her. As he falls, the preacher curses the children, their Appalachian town, and the mountains that surround it.
Eight of the children survive the Civil War. As adults, they grapple with both the historical curse of the war, and the spiritual curse of the preacher.
