About to graduate high school, Oliver Behr is not sure of his purpose in a society that demands success. Struggling with depression, anxiety, and a hopeless search for love, Ollie is the typical teenager except for one thing; a mysterious shadow that stalks him, appearing in his darkest moments. His life soon begins to fall apart as friends and family abandon him, but then a tragic event takes place, releasing the Shadow from its mortal chains.
Past meets future in this thriller, leading to a present full of Fear as Ollie finally finds his purpose.
Definitely a slow burn to start… does a great job peaking your interest with the prologue, and plants little seeds of intrigue until it really hits the fan about 200 pages in. For sure didn’t see the ending coming. An enjoyable, light paced read for anyone who likes to get into someone’s head and see the tug of war we all seem to have.
Shadow of Fear is about Oliver Behr who starts as a senior in high school and follows him through his first semester in college. The book itself was slow paced at first and then rapidly started to speed up. I didn't quite understand the concept until the end of the book and was fully able to appreciate the slow build up.
Ultimately, the story is about Oliver Behr and his progression towards becoming a serial killer. His main goal is to protect the women in his life, and he does so by going to extreme lengths. He often perceives events and mistakes advances from women because he is desperate to find love.
While I enjoyed the book itself, there were some issues with grammar and phrasing of sentences, but it doesn't take away from the book itself. Oliver is not a character that most people will end up liking, but you aren't supposed to like his character. I would have liked to have more serial killer vibes imbedded into the beginning of the book as I was not certain what the book was entirely about until maybe 60% of the way through it. I was a fan of how the book wrapped up though.
