New Rules for Idiots

Rate this book
Our trio of madcap mercenaries have brought peace to Mugh-9, but it turns out that peace is bad for business. What is a merc to do but head out into the galaxy and find some work? There's always someone in need of a steady hand, a strong arm, and a propensity toward violence, right? Our trio hit the jackpot when they are approached by a representative from a crumbling regime. Have gun, will that's the order of the day. The company loads up and heads out for a distant corner of a broken empire. It doesn't take them long to realize that this might be more dangerous than even they expected. Lethal space anomalies? Check. Ruthless pirates? Check. Omnicidal cyborgs? Check. Our crew of guns-for-hire are in over their heads. That never stopped them before, so why worry about it now? Scroll up and click BUY NOW or READ FOR FREE and grab your copy today to embark on another blade-ripping, gun-roaring adventure with the Zoo Universe's best-worst mercs.

The DEMC are looking for work, now that they've finished helping the planet, Mugh-9, end their war - well, for now, anyway.

The trouble is, the team needs to be earning more than they presently are, with peace being brokered, and only guarding jobs, with minimum wages, available - especially as they have a ship that needs a constant stream of money spent on it, let alone their Mech suits, plus all the armaments they constantly need to replace, when they get another chance to actually go into battle again, that is.

But, when they are approached by a team of Janissaries, the Jindahin elite special forces troops, who are guarding a Dahin, Over-Keeper Kuzratha'Tmol, they are made an offer they simply can't refuse.

This starts a journey for them, they leads them half way across the Galaxy, and into an abandoned, and mostly unexplored, part of Jindahin space, called the Vreth'Gatha.

This is where there is a station that was built centuries ago, that has a wormhole attached, and where the Over-Keeper wants the DEMC to attract other, smaller, Merc teams, to join them, in the investigation - and looting - of the station.

Once the DEMC, and their sponsor, gets there, they find the station to still have working defenses - and this is just the start of them fighting one bloody battle after another, with pirates, and with mechanical creatures that the present residents of the station call the Scourge!

How the DEMC cope with all of this, shows just how well they've melded together into a team that is everything their reputation says it is.

But they have more battles to fight, and, hopefully, win, before they finally find out what it is that the Over-Keeper really wants with them.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, and am getting very much involved with this, sometimes hapless, crew!

I love that Kortez has really taken to heart the upbringing of his strange, alien, son, Zichix, who is growing up rather rapidly, now.

Then we have Ivan, Kortez' long time fighting partner, who gets ever better with his knives - which I guess is due to the constant practice he gets.

There are the new members of the team, too: Dorian, the young man they ended up employing in the last book, who has turned into an excellent quartermaster for the ship, and Ibu, who has taken on the role of Armourer - a role very much needed, with the way the DEMC go through their armour!

Last, but not least of all, we have Chill, who seems to have been volunteered as the team's spokesperson, and Captain! Lol

I really love the way that she ends up being the one who sets out all of the team's rules of engagement, and how she also ended up organising their battles - and never seems to realise just how good she is at it! Lol

With this book finished, and it being silly O'Clock in the morning once more, I'm going to go on to the next book on my reading list which, luckily, is book five of this series: 'New Rules for Incompetents'. Then I'm going to grab as much sleep as I can, before starting it.

So, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of this next, and penultimate, book in this series!

road trip

So since the DEMC made mugh9 so much better to live and work they can not get exciting or dangerous jobs they had work but when they were very rudely approached with an exciting dangerous well paying job they couldn’t say no then things odd and more dangerous some things don’t need oxygen or atmo to survive

Great read!

I've been very intrigued by this series from the beginning. Now I'm really jazzed with the "Zoo" emphasize finally coming out. There was a but of "Zoo" with the bugz, but way more "Zoo" atmosphere now. Can't wait to see what happens next!
