I always keep my promises, so when I said that I was going to cause a riot in the Royal Occult Bureau for not allowing women to fight, I meant it. But the head of the bureau doesn’t want to hear any nonsense about equal opportunities for men and women. Nonsense, he says!
He offers me a deal. If I solve the case about strange noises and howls coming from a painting in the National Gallery, he’ll consider giving the female agents a rise. If I fail, female agents will keep pushing papers in the bureau. Did I mention that I’m pregnant with an Unnatural baby? No pressure then, especially since Unnatural pregnancies are usually lethal for the mothers.
Of course, my handsome husband is working with me, which should give me the perfect occasion to tell him the news. News that will give him a fit. That’s enough to make a girl think about a holiday.
** This is book 7 in the Royal Occult Bureau Series, but it reads as a stand-alone. It’s a steamy, paranormal/Victorian romance for adults, light and funny with a mystery**
I bought this book simply because it was the next in the Royal Occult Bureau series which I have been enjoying. And I needed something to take me out of myself and Barbara Russell does that so well. Mrs Lynch also takes one away from the normal dismal late 19th Century London of the previous books.
So how about that? We end up in Rome fighting un-natural beings and also the local equivalent of the Royal Occult Bureau. A real change of scene.
This was a very entertaining read, fast paced and full of intruiging situations and creatures. I loved Asia's journey in this story. Highly recommended.
Back with our first couple and I loved almost every second. New unnaturals, locations, and friends made. Asia continues to be a strong female that knows how to trust her gut and get what she wants. Another great book in this series and cannot wait to see what is next!
