This book is a compilation of the papers presented in a round table conference on "Commercialisation and Privatisation of Outer Space: Issues for National Space Legislation" organised by the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, in association with TMT Law Practice, New Delhi. The book is the first of its kind as it contains a compilation of scholarly papers written by space experts, drawing from the experiences of academicians, attorneys and those in the industry reflecting upon the commercial aspect of space activities and the underlying legal landscape governing them. It addresses the necessity for private sector participation in outer space and the need for a national space legislation for India. It discusses India's international obligation; reflects upon relevant principles and rules of the international space law; studies the laws of spacefaring nations and outlines the minimum legislative agenda as to what should be the content of such a legislation. It also discusses legal issues relating to commercial space activities like remote sensing and space transportation. Privatisation aspects of the PSLVs have also been discussed.
