Anyone who's ever read Kafka on the Shore probably knows what it's like to be stuck with no words when someone asks you, "what's it about?". What is it about? What's the story? You could simply say that it's a story of a runaway. You could say it's about self discovery. You could tell people it's a modern retelling of Oedipus. I've heard all of the above and that's about as vague as could be when discussing this Murakami Masterpiece. I've read it twice and I'm looking forward to reading it again next year. Until I meet someone who has read Kafka on the Shore and becomes absolutely immersed in it the way I have, I'll just keep my discussions in my head. For now.
