The local bakery explodes in the middle of the night Accident or arson? And where's Penzi's favorite baker? Penzi Munro and her family are settling down to their new life in the French seaside town of Beaucoup-sur-Mer. At last, Penzi can find out what treasures are stored in the antiques shop attached to their centuries old house on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. However, evil is never far away, even in a quiet little town like Beaucoup-sur-Mer. It's not long before Penzi receives an urgent phone call from the mayor, Monsieur Bonhomie, asking her to help him with his latest crisis. Felix, Penzi's multi-talented and sexy bodyguard, tries to stop Penzi from taking up the challenge, but Penzi is a newly committed white witch who says, "A witch has to do what a witch has to do." So, family life is put on hold again while Penzi adds to her portfolio of spells in her fight to bring the murderer to justice. Will she succeed? If you love stories about witches, magic, and talking cats and dogs, all spiced up with a dollop of danger, you'll love following along with Penzi and Felix, her shape-shifting sidekick, as they fight the good fight against evil in the small French seaside town of Beaucoup-sur-Mer.
Mpenzie is at it again. She finds a baker, who makes the best eclairs in her new home town only to have his bakery and himself blown up.
When the mayor asks Mpenzie to find who did, for his sister, the widow she cannot turn him down much to Felix's horror. To top it off a witch doctor shows up.
You need to read this book to find out who did it and why. Plus you need to read about the witch doctor.
This was a decent book. I wanted to get to the end to find out who the killer was, but the middle just seems like it is a bunch of randomness and words just to fill the pages without a lot of context. And then once I got to who the killer was there was a twist that made no sense and still does not. I am not sure if I will continue reading this series.
Mpenzi is a barrister, an oldest sister, a new white witch, has already investigated one murder successfully, new to living in France, and dyslexic. Her father assigned a body guard to her, and Felix just happens to be a shifter ;) The bakery of the best baker of eclairs in her small town blows up and eventually the baker's partial remains are found inside. The mayor asks her to investigate, but quietly, so Madame Prosecutor doesn'' find out. There are red herrings, plot twists, suspense, and even a witch doctor! There is a whole lot more, and getting to know the tiniest bit about life in a small seaside town in France is only one of the best parts. Excellent plot! Excellent writing!
Mpenzi is on to a new case, the second in the few weeks she has been in the new village. The English on French vibe is pleasant and different, (Mpenzi is English and living in a French village). She is beginning to learn magic and to integrate it into her case solving. Mpenzi is likeable, intelligent, and independent without the often "smart alec" tone often seen in American counterparts in other series. Believe me, the relief from snark and sarcasm is a relief, at least for now. In addition, the lack of constant banter allows room for the development of an actual story and time for a murder mystery to be solved. I enjoyed this little mystery, and I hope book three will be along soon!
Awesome. Life has settled down and they are all getting into the rhythm of their new life when an unexpected phone call throws them into another investigation. Who blew up the bakery and why? Even more complications arise when it is found that the baker was actually a victim in the crime. Wonderful mix of human and animal characters, a great view of a family settling into a new community and a well crafted thoughtful plot. Vengence and illicit affairs are woven skillfully in this wonderful read.
I loved the book. Mpenzi is trying so hard to have a real home for her brothers and the animals, but murder is always in the way. The feeling that something is happening between her and Felix is there, but no action. She must feel proud about the way that she is overcoming her reading disability.
I loved this book. It was just as captivating as the first book. I cannot wait for book 3, 4, 5 etc. The way the characters and the animals are together are wonderful, because I love animals.
