I love Ms. Croix’s writing and storytelling. Her imagination is outstanding. I started reading Ms. Croix ‘s books last year and have been hooked ever since. She is the author that got me totally hooked on shifter romance when she widened her writing genre from straight contemporary romance to shifter romance.
The Lion Within is the first book in the Ghost Cat Shifter’s series, a sister series to her Catamount series which was phenomenal. The Lion Within is just as great! Each book in this series is a stand-a-lone book and can be read by itself
I am not going to rehash the blurb in my own words, my words would not come close to describing this extraordinary book. I will tell you why I loved this book. Ms. Croix has a way in her writing to make the unbelievable, believable. She will take you into her stories and you will not want to come out, ever. Unfortunately to story does end. I love her character development, and her scenery descriptions. They make me want to visit these places, and befriend these people. Yes, I know….fiction, but what if???
I was gifted with an ARC of this book for my honest opinion. Now, if you like shifter romance, this one is definitely for you.
Thank you for reading my review.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book in the Ghost Cats series which is a spinoff of Catamount Shifters. We find ourselves in Colorado meeting Sophia who owns a coffee shop. She lives alone with her dog Daisy and is best friends with Vivi. Sophia has been worried about her brother, Heath, the past year because he was in an accident, then addicted to pain killers then got arrested trying to score cocaine. He was sent to rehab.

Daniel is originally from Sophia’s hometown. He moved when he was 3 because his brother accidentally shifted on a playground and was shot. His parents took him and moved away. Right before his mother passes away, she is finally honest with him about them being shifters and why they left. She had always talked about her hometown and loved it so Daniel decided to go see for himself if he could actually live there.

Daniel & Sophia are instantly attracted to one another. Sophia’s brother returns from rehab stronger than ever. They all get involved in trying to take down the shifter drug ring in town. Exciting storyline, loved every page!! A must read!

This is spin off of the Catamount Lion Shifters series. It continues the story of the drug smuggling ring that is happening with the shifters.

This series takes place in Painter, Colorado. The story resolves around Sophia and Daniel. Sophia's brother was caught up in the ring and her life has revolved around her family. Daniel is semi-new to the area. He didn't realize he was a shifter until his mom passed away.

The chemistry between the two is off the charts. Sophia and Vivi are such a pair, best friends for years and they will speak their mind to each other.

Even if you haven't read the other series, you will know what's going on here. The story will suck you in.

I would highly suggest waiting for the second book of the series to come out, as I was a bit disappointed at the ending of this one. It just seemed like it jumped right to the HEA.

I received a copy for my honest review.

What a wonderful beginning to a new series with strong characters, action, adventure, mystery, suspense, family dynamics, witty banter, and paranormal elements, set in Painter, Colorado, a picturesque little town high in the Rocky Mountains. I was drawn in immediately and remained glued to my Kindle until I read the last word. I loved the instant sizzling chemistry, interactions and steamy romance between Sophia Ashworth and Daniel Hayes. J.H. Croix has given us another winner and I look forward to more in the Ghost Cat Shifters series. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

When the local coffee guru is smitten by the New guy in town her friends keep telling her not to let herself talk herself out of a beautiful thing. The issue is with the chemistry they have it is palpably felt in the sir when the two are in the same room. With the town still in turmoil over the shifter drug trade the heat is on and the adventure begins

A true love story

A very touching love story, that involved lion shifters. An excellent job by the author to combine shifters and romance that is very different from all other shifter books. Well worth your time.

Painter, Colorado is a small town high in the mountains and has a community of mountain lion shifters. While other places have stopped the drug trafficking in their communities, Painter is still dealing with it. Sophia Ashworth owns a coffee shop while her friend, Vivian, Vivi, has a small landscaping business and works part time at the local bar. Sophia and Vivi are keeping track of illegal activities in the mountains trying to get some information for the police. Daniel Hayes is returning to Painter after the death of his parents. He was born thee but his parents moved away after the death of his older brother when he was three. When he meets Sophia at the coffee shop, there's an immediate connection.

I enjoyed the story which branches off of her Catamount Lion Shifters series. However, there were some grammatical errors and a couple discrepancies that detracted from the story in my opinion.

Another great romance from author J.H. Croix. She never disappoints!
Great spin-off of the Catamount Series. Sophia Ashworth is a distant cousin of Dane Ashworth from Protected Mate (Book 1 of the Catamount Series). The story is based in a small town in Colorado which is another mountain lion shifter stronghold. She has an instant attraction to a newcomer, Daniel Hayes. He used to live in town but had a terrible family tragedy and moved away. Now all of his family is gone and he has decided to come back to town. But there is danger in town from a drug smuggling ring and his re-appearance brings even more trouble. Can he keep Sophia safe or will she be the one who saves him? Ms. Croix writes strong heroines falling for sexy, strong heroes.

Highly Recommend

This is a new author for me and I must say the author won me over. I really like shifter books and this one has a whole new story not the usual shifter story. Daniel comes back to his home town of Painter..shifter abound. He meets the lovely Sophia and
Sparks fly. Meanwhile there is a shifter smuggling ring working out of Painter. Vivi (Sophia friend) and Sophia decide to go into the forest to shift and they came to see a little cabin where the smell of shifters and human.
If you want to find out more you'll have to buy the book.

Sweet story

With the usual mystery/crime component and a steamy love story of instant attraction. The story is based in a different city/state so the connection with previous novels is tenuous.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

Daniel has returned to the town of his birth, Painter Colorado – and the town his family fled from after a tragedy struck at the heart. His family left behind a dead son, shot during an accidental shift in a school playground and they also left behind their shifter heritage. As his mother neared death she finally explained to him about his shifter half and he finally understood the strange urges he’d had. Suddenly, so much about himself made sense and at the same time opened up even more questions. he’d made the decision to return to the home he couldn’t remember to try to understand the past – he didn’t expect to rattle a nest of snakes or to meet his mate.

Sophia’s family is mending and she has taken on a very full load of her own successful business, tending to her mother and worrying about her brother who found himself in a boatload of trouble. Heath had been injured in a car accident, as a result he became addicted to pain killers. Unfortunately, that addiction lead him to look for stronger drugs to help his constant need for relief – he was busted and thankfully sent to rehab to deal with his addictions. Still, Sophia cannot let go of her worry, the what if’s of her brother’s situation and the constant worry she finds coloring every aspect of her life.

When Daniel walks into her coffee shop for the first time Sophia and her lion sit up and take intense notice… and that attention is fully returned. Sophia’s lion knows what she wants, her mate, but the human side is more cautious. Her life is full to overflowing with family needs right now, how can she possibly consider starting a relationship. With some prodding from her best friend, Vivi and the powerful attraction that will not be denied Daniel and Sophia will make those first steps toward each other.

As Daniel is learning more about himself and his past, the present is very much on his mind as he discovers that relatives aren’t always welcomed and his uncle is hiding a lot behind the doors of his old now neglected home. And he’ll go to extreme lengths to keep his secrets just as hidden.

The Lion Within is an intriguing and sexy story. I have not yet read the Catamount Lion Shifters series – a fact that I will be taking care of as soon as I’ve got a break in my schedule. But the drug problems they’ve been dealing with up in Maine have a connection in Colorado. Daniel’s journey of discovering his past is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. He knows what happened to his brother, he just doesn’t understand what he is or how to deal with his Shifter side. Sophia will have to allow her family to function on their own in order to grab her own happiness. She can have both, she just has to understand that and find the faith and trust to let go.

I enjoyed this one very much. And now I’m about to start on Heath and Vivi’s story – now that couple sounds very interesting indeed. *grin* Can’t wait to get started. If you love Shifter Romance then The Lion Within should be on your reading list – it’s a good, solid and sexy love story with emotions that will touch your heart.
