I received a gifted advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of a book tour hosted by Lovebookstours.
Adam - Fear is an amazing supernatural thriller which I'm hoping will be a start to a series! This book is about Adam who's trying to maneuver through the harsh realities of life and the world in which we live in. My heart goes out to him so many times as he doesn't have it easy with his siblings and is always in conflicts with them. Adam is quite a peaceful character and I don't think he deserves a lot of what goes on in his life. I hope (if there is another book after this), we get to learn more about him as I think we've only scratched the surface in this story. When twelve bodies are discovered hanging from the ceiling of crime boss Vladimir Markovic, the FBI investigating are almost killed - when Adam helps them escape with their lives intact (just). This book ran like a movie in my mind! The descriptive writing and scene setting was so vivid along with the superhuman and paranormal type elements woven between it! I did struggle a few times to keep up with who was who as there is a big cast of characters in the book, but after a few flicks back I got back to grips with this.
A mysterious man named Adam suffers severe life-threatening injuries after a horrific Killing of twelve people in a warehouse in New York, which he survives and heals rapidly and astounds the FBI officers, whom he had helped at the warehouse, this leads to an extraordinary story of unexplained supernatural events and brutal killings!
Adam-Fear is a book that contained so much intrigue and happenings beyond my mind. It also contained plenty of blood and gore, all of which I loved.
Krysta Rose-Anderson is a Special Agent with the FBI. She is an amazing character. She is hard-working and is determined to get to the bottom of this horrendous crime, which has plenty of supernatural elements to it. Adam, the mystery man with extraordinary powers, is a quiet, unassuming man. I enjoyed getting to know both of these characters.
The plot had me gripped to the pages. It was fun never knowing what was coming next, which made for a brilliant page-turner.
There was a lot of tension throughout and some parts were quite detailed, so-much-so that on a few occasions I had to re-read the page to take all the details in. It is also thought-provoking. I adored the last chapters as it all came together and I was able to put everything into place.
I really enjoyed this novel. I Loved the contrast of darkness and light, good versus evil! But also the romance and all the different twists and turns that occurred. I shall be recommending this book to everyone. I now look forward to the sequel.
As the twelfth member, he must make twelve sacrifices. The young Bantu tribesman is welcomed into the mysterious Avunaye. 1,500 years later, in the city of New York, the ritual has been attempted again. Twelve bodes are discovered hanging from the ceiling of a warehouse belonging to notorious crime boss Vladimir Markovic. Investigating the scene, a team of FBI special agents, as well as several police officers, barely escape with their lives thanks to the help of a mysterious man named Adam. Firstly, thank you to @lovebookstours, @author_matthew_pearce and @bluefalconpub for the copy of Fear in exchange for an honest review. This book has a very original story line, bringing biblical tales to the modern world in a fantasy twist. The character of Adam definitely plays on your heartstrings as he is in constant conflict with his siblings, dealing with the harsh reality of the world around him whilst trying to uphold his peaceful nature. I did enjoy the way the story brought an a superhuman element to the present day allowing us to imagine some of these scenes played out in New York as you would expect to see in an action movie.
I will give advanced warning to future readers of Fear that there are A LOT of characters to remember and if you struggle with keeping up I would highly suggest writing them down as you discover them so it’s easier to follow. I managed to keep up with all of the characters but found myself sometimes saying '“who’s Luciana?” Oh wait, it’s Lucy!” It sounds crazy I know, but there are a lot of names to remember with some being referred by two different names!
I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy the fantasy-in-real-life theme and I will definitely keep my eyes peeled for the next instalment of the series, which I’m sure there must be as there is much more fun to be had with this storyline.
So as soon as I saw this book I just knew I had to have it! This is the first book by Matthew Pearce and I hope so much that it won't be his last one!
This book had a fast pace , and was packed with moments to keep you on your toes while reading and to keep your attention hooked onto it. The writing style really captured and awoke my imagination while reading , it isn't your typical thriller as it throws in the supernatural too (another of my favourite genres!) , there was plenty of twist and turns...
When a book has 12 bodies hanging from a ceiling of a warehouse you know you are going to be in for a bumpy ride with lots if moments where you think you know what is going to happen then suddenly it goes a different way. I love the characters, the mystery man Adam , how it all flows and joins together.
I really hope to read more of Matthews books and hopefully this becomes a series! Definitely a 5star read for me!
So what do you get if you mix the FBI, New York City and supernatural powers? This book!
It was immense from start to finish - it had me hooked from the first chapter and I really need to read the next instalment.
It really reminded me of an episode of criminal minds. It was so intricately planned out and I enjoyed how each chapter is written from someone else's point of view.
Devastated that Seamus died - he was always just trying to do his best and be a good police officer.
I can not wait to see what happens next and if Adam can defeat the rest of the Avunaye.

This is a Supernatural Thriller that is filled with intense descriptive writing. It is written in such a way I could see each chapter displayed as a scene from a blockbuster movie. It reminded me of 'The Boyz' that has recently been viewed over on prime with its violence and characterisations!
It is action packed, there is blood, there is gore, there is pain and incredible fight scenes. The language is fruitful and there are some detailed sexual interactions. There are lots of characters in this book so it's recommended you sit in a quite spot to absorb the plot.
I enjoyed following the F.B.I agents in there discovery of the 12 dead bodies hanging from the ceiling of the warehouse and the character Adam was very interesting, I really felt for him throughout!
Immense yourself in this spine-chilling, fearful fight for justice, as a group of immortals endeavour to correct humanity's current trajectory in a world that has lost all sense of compassion.
¤ Supernatual plot ¤ Lots of characters ¤ Descptive writing
Trigger Warnings ⚠️ Violence, Sex Scenes, fruitful language
If you like Supernatural thrillers you will enjoy this book and it this is only the beginning...
Matthew, this book needs to be shared with more people!
This was such a good book! It felt like I was reading a Supernatural/Law and Order episode in a way. There was really good thriller elements, shape shifting creatures, murders, rituals, and I never had a moment where things settled down. I thought it was definitely intense and I liked seeing different viewpoints from the characters. I really appreciate the fact that this is most likely going to be a series? Because I can absolutely see how the story should continue after this first book!
From three paragraphs into the introduction to the book you are instantly taken to the deaths of 12 people found hanging and you’re gripped to find out more about who Adam is.
This book sucks you in from the beginning with the descriptive writing of the tribe and the fight for victory of the twelve trials. You’re instantly told about Nahki, and you feel for his determination and Fear as you find out he’s also one of the twelve participants in the trials.
It captures your attention by starting in the past then time hops forward where you meet Krysta. I loved reading about Krysta and Solomon’s partnership in the FBI. The author has done a great job at bringing to life every member of their team.
I admired the massive build up, and every chapter starting with a different introduction to a character. It’s not often a book grabs my attention with remembering every characters name but this one certainly did. The book constantly reflected on the concept of fear in a subtle way but enough to notice.
The only downfall was the build up to the terrifying moments of action then boom you’re left in the dark for another chapter until it builds back up again. I got impatient with myself that I couldn’t read it more quickly. But that’s a skill and a half the author had with making it an epic read.
I found this to be a really interesting story with lots of twists and turns. Fear is part of the Adam series, so there's still so much more to learn, both in the past and the future.
The characters in it are unbelievable, I just can’t see why they act as they do (but this is not a criticism of the writing), and whilst I don't like any of the 12 excluding Adam, I want to learn more about them and their many, many years on the earth. It was also good to learn about the police squad members too – they all definitely seemed much more human.
I only knocked off a star as there were a few places I thought the characters should have acted differently. Also, I found there were a lot of names that I needed to keep track of, maybe having a page in the next book with a recap would be helpful.
Mixing myths, stories, and real life together worked really well in this chilling tale, and I'm looking forward to more from the series.
*I received a complimentary copy of the book from lovebookstours and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Definitely not my typical book and yet, I did really enjoy it. It kept me gripped to the end and wanting to find out what was going to happen.
I did feel there was a lot of characters to keep up with and remember and sometimes found myself confused - that’s as probably just me - but it didn’t deter from the drama and twists that came alongside this book.
I definitely feel this will be good for those who enjoy the real-life type of fantasy/sci-fi genres. Not up my alley but still, I did enjoy it. This was my first book from Matthew and I think I could definitely see myself reading more in the future if I can get my head round the genre and how it all works.
Thank you to @bluefalconpub and @author_matthew_pearce for allowing me this ARC and to @lovebookstours for allowing me on this tour!
Firstly thank you to you for allowing me to read your incredible book. The front cover drawn me in and with the crisp white pages and the short chapters, keeps you guessing. You just want to keep turning the pages and find out what happens next. It's between 'Criminal Minds' and 'Supernatural' I don't want to give too many spoilers has it would affect the impact of the read. I loved it so much im already giving a friend the copy and asked her for another review. I cant wait for more from @author_matthew_pearce
I really really enjoyed the concept of this story. It had so many brilliant bits that kept me wanting to read on. However, I felt it jumped about a bit and I felt like I needed more before it moved onto something else. I'm glad I read it and I did enjoy it. A brilliant take on the Adam and Eve story and it was also a great mix of real life and fantasy and it had me shouting No! Quite a few times. I really felt for the characters and wanted them to catch a break and win for once. If you like fantasy, crime and thriller then I do recommend it.
5 out of 5. Could not put this book down and cannot wait for book number 2 to be released. From the first page, you are hooked and so invested into every single character. This book takes you to a different world and you feel like you’re living it. Would 100% recommend reading.
This is a brilliant exciting and fast paced supernatural thriller. The story starts really exciting with twelve bodies hanging from the ceiling of a warehouse. I was sucked into the story from the start. Loved every second of it.
The story is told from a number of POVs which made it easier to follow the story. Really liked the writing style and short chapters. I enjoyed the character Adam and what he went through.
There was so many little information I thought was not necessary but as you read on I understood why, specially the cat.
Brilliant read and definitely recommend. I'm looking forward to the second book.
A supernatural thriller which packed a punch. There a lot going on with this story so you need your wits about and no distractions. From the first page we a thrust straight into the murder scene. There are a lot of layers to this book and it was a fast paced read. Adam is such a likable character, despite all the shit life has thrown at him he was resilient. The writting of the story and plot made this book a high rating for me. The story and world building was pulled off brilliantly and I pretty much read this in one sitting as I didn't want to put it down. I can't wait to see more books from this author.
I was really surprised by this book. I throughly enjoyed it. I would say it’s a crime thriller with a supernatural element but is a great mix of genres. I had read the synopsis of the book before I started it but it was much more complex than I realised. It was a very original concept
It was incredibly fast paced, I do say that about a lot of books but this pulled me in almost immediately. Very quickly the story has twelve deal bodies, it doesn’t give you much chance to breathe - in a good way of course. I found Adam very likeable and I felt a lot of sympathy for how conflicted he was at times.
The book was written really well and described brilliantly. I would definitely describe it as a rollercoaster, the excitement would build and then calm, only to build very quickly.
The only two negatives I would say were the amount of characters in the book. It was hard at times to remember who was who. But like I said it is described very week which helps. I also didn’t like the cover - don’t hate me lol. I don’t pick books for their covers at all and this is a perfect example. But would this book jump out on the shelf based on its cover? Probably not.
This book is a crime thriller with a supernatural twist, and I wasn’t sure what to expect from it. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it and was gripped right from the start. I loved how little mentions of things throughout the story became something more later on, the cat being one of these things, meaning that the reader has to be aware of everything that is going on. There were a lot of characters but having each chapter written from a different ones perspective really helped in keeping track of them. There were some truly likeable characters in this book, and Adam in particular was a favourite. None of them were straightforward, they were either flawed or conflicted in some way, which made them realistic and relatable. A great read in what is becoming a new favourite genre of mine.
This was a gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you love bug tours for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review.
When the opportunity to review this book came about, I was intrigued by the book description. However what I found is a more complex storyline, that turned out to be a fun spin on the story of Adam and Eve.
The story was light, entertaining, and had a few plot twist and turns thrown in there. My one struggle with keeping track of how many characters and who they were as they entered the storyline. Best laid plans this weekend is to go back and reread the story again, now having a clearer picture and seeing how the Easter eggs in each chapter foreshadow more of the storyline later on.
Reading this reminded me that books are indeed the best form of entertainment available. With this book in hand one doesn't need to watch a film. Based on a concept I personally haven't heard of before, to say this was gripping is an understatement. Although based on a supernatural theme, the characters were relatable. And I absolutely loved the twists and turns on the way. The only issue I had was the number of characters which were hard to keep track of.
I received a free advance copy of the book for my honest review.
There’s one word to describe this book... gripping! From beginning to end I was absolutely hooked. I feel like the depth of our main character, Adam, was fantastic and I enjoyed learning about him (I hope there is a second book so we can learn even more!) The plot wasn’t just gripping, it was intense, detailed and executed in such an immense way that I can’t help but shout about how much I enjoyed this read. If you haven’t read this yet, please do!
I simply cannot praise Matthew Pearce's "Fear" highly enough. It's a startling thriller with so many ups and downs that entirely gripped me. The next one can't come soon enough. Do not miss this ride-of-a-lifetime read.
Modern fantasy meets crime adventure set in New York in this fast paced story spanning the ages.
So much happening with a large number of interesting characters it makes for really engaging reading. This detailed and intense story would make an excellent movie.
Great and well thought out plot line and I think we will see a lot more of this author in the future.
Raring this 3.75 stars.
Many thanks to Matthew and Blue Falcon Publishing for my gifted copy.

Readers’ Comments “An exciting supernatural thriller told from several characters´ POV. Exciting story, well-written with good pacing. There are lots of characters, so I did get a little confused now and then. Skipped around a bit, but as the story moved on, I got the hang of the storytelling. Overall, a fab read!” Male reader, aged 27 “With a strong opening Prologue, this is a compelling thriller with plenty happening to keep the reader turning the page. Adam is a cool character and fun to get to know. I did feel the plot strayed and lacked focus which was off-putting. But the author always brought the plot back on track. I would happily read the next in the set.” Female reader, aged 55 “An interesting mix of thriller and supernatural. The author´s put together a complex plot with A LOT of important characters. Personally, I thought he did an amazing job! It´s always important to start strong; well, the opening chapter of this book is a knock-out. The author also seems to know his characters well and, although you might have to work a bit to keep on top of who is who, it´s worth it. The FBI element of the story and how they don´t trust the protagonist, is particularly interesting.” Female reader, aged 59
To Sum It Up: ‘A fast-paced, supernatural thriller. A Red Ribbon Winner and highly recommended!’ The Wishing Shelf Book Awards

Review This book surprised me a lot, I thought I'd like it because the synopsis sounds fab, but I didn't expect to have my mind blown and love it! I love dystopian books and especially when they have a twist of other elements in like Fear does. We have a crime/thriller in the plot and also supernatural elements too and I was here for it. The prologue was on fire! Literally I was reading the ritual and sat on the edge of my bed going oh my god. It was a killer of a prologue and I was like yes this book is going to be epic. I love that we have multiple characters and povs. With Krysta whose our main FBI Agent to Adam who is part of the Avunaye and many more. I liked that we had different characters input on everything and it also felt like every single character had a part to play in this story, whether it was big or small. There was some raunchy scenes, some gory scenes, emotional scenes and I really liked all the investigation side of the story. (As much as I love my fantasy, you still can't take thriller genre out of me!) The supernatural elements and the ritual was fascinating and even though I'm not religious, the religion side (Adam and Eve) and what the Avunaye is about, was fascinating and very compelling.
Honestly this book is so well done. Pearce knows how to captivate you in his writing and he makes every page suspenseful. I've never read a book quite like this and that's what I loved about it. It's original, fast-paced, full of action, the banter is funny and the relationships with everyone was lovely as well. Definitely an author to just pick up and make a decision yourself about his work. My only criticism was there were parts that I felt were drawn out a bit too much. If you like your dystopian then definitely pick up Fear you won't be disappointed.
The first chapter of Adam-Fear is so compelling that you can't help but dive straight into the rest of the book to discover what happens to the tribal hunter-turned-Avunaye. And then you're in modern-day New York trying to solve a gruesome murder with the FBI that's somehow connected to the Avunaye.
Adam-Fear is a fantastic read. It took me a little while to get into it (but I think that's because I read the paperback and I tend to read on trains using my kindle so I didn't often have the paperback with me when I wanted to read) and there are quite a lot of characters so I would have liked a cast list that I could have flipped back to every now and again to check who was who. But once I got about 1/3 of the way through, I finished the book in an afternoon because I couldn't stop reading.
And when it clicked who Adam was... Bravo, Matthew!
All in all, Adam-Fear tells a thrilling story with supernatural vibes. It's incredibly complex but all of the different threads of the story are brought together in an easily digestible manner. The pace is good and the characters are suitably complicated. I particularly enjoyed the chapters that focused on some of the baddies to be honest!
Twelve bodies are found hanging in a warehouse belonging to a notorious criminal, Vladimir Markovic. The FBI investigate and they soon discover they are facing something new and frightening. This is an exciting thriller with a supernatural twist. Adam and his siblings want to change a humanity that seems to have lost its sense of compassion. But their methods couldn't be more different. The immortals are set on a road of violence and destruction. Adam wants to stop them. Despite saving the lives of the FBI agents, he is a person of interest and Adam must evade them as well as his siblings.
An original and exciting novel, it is told from multiple points of view. There are a lot of characters and it can be confusing at times. I also felt that it jumped about a lot which can be disorienting. There are lots of details that turn out to be important later in the story. All in all an interesting concept with enough loose ends to make you look forward to the next instalment.
My thanks to Love Books Tours for my e-book given in exchange for my fair and honest review.
