Young readers will love to peek through the pages of this busy book to discover fun facts about space! In this newest installment in Tiger Tales' What Can You See? series, young readers can peek through the pages to learn all about space. Topics covered include Mission Control and what happens there; why astronauts need to strap themselves in to sleep; and what objects are present in space, such as comets, the planets, the Sun, and the Moon. Simple text and lively illustrations make this an ideal introduction for children who are interested in learning more about space.
With several sturdy peek-through pages this board book--2.5 for me--offers youngsters some introductory information about space travel, the planets in the solar system and beyond. Beginning with the launch of a rocket and then moving outward from Earth, the book takes readers to the Moon and beyond. Perhaps there is too much information provided here that might be overwhelming for the book's intended audience--not to mention that it would be doubtful that an astronaut would be able to see all the objects mentioned in space. Although young readers might not be baffled by the book's design, I was since I wondered what happened to those astronauts introduced at the start of the book.
WHAT CAN YOU SEE? IN SPACE is a fun peek-through picture book that walks the reader through some of the basics of space. The book begins with mission control before going to the astronauts in space, then the moon, solar system, sun, and zooms out to galaxies. Each page spread includes some fun facts about each grouping at a level that will work well for toddlers and preschoolers.
What I loved: This is a simple but fun board book that teaches young children some of the basics about space. The facts are age appropriate and easy to digest for little ones, particularly toddlers and preschoolers. There are a lot of basics to learn about astronauts, comets, and galaxies with each fact presented in a brief sentence. This early learning will work well for younger readers who can then dig deeper in other books. The illustrations are lovely, featuring a diversity of people and plenty of cool things to visually explore in space.
Final verdict: WHAT CAN YOU SEE? IN SPACE is an entertaining and educational peek-through board book that teaches young children some cool facts about outer space.
Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.
Factual, but not overly engaging board book about space. The illustrations are nicely detailed and the depictions of the planets in space are sure to fascinate younger children. But the overly wordy narrative contains mainly a collection of facts with no real coherent ties. I like the fact that diversity was a factor when designing this book, including one page showing differently abled people working at mission control.
