HER SECRET COULD BE HER UNDOING…

The American Civil War. 1865.

A woman well-versed with facades, Justice Hudson is hiding in plain sight. No one questions a smooth-faced deadeye known for bringing down countless Confederates in battle. She’s an asset the Union army cannot turn away, though most soldiers peg her for an underage boy—she keeps to herself in camp and serves the army with deadly precision in the field.
Justice has guarded the secret of her identity for years, but she’s hiding another secret, and she knows her cover can be maintained for only so long. She’s going to be found out, and dishonourably discharged from the army—or worse.

Intimately acquainted with love and loss, Union Captain Eamon Gallagher is trying to keep his head down—and keep the past from following him into the present. While his doctoring days are over, his keen attention to detail is not—and when he meets a young private who looks years too young to be fighting a war, he wonders what secrets young Hudson is hiding.
But as the war draws to an end and one of Justice’s fellow soldiers is gunned down in the street, a more personal war is begun, with consequences farther-reaching than Justice or Eamon could ever have imagined. They must find the killer and bring them to justice, before Justice becomes their next target.

Phenomenal!
Gripping, emotional, gritty and moving. A stirring story that captures endurance, courage, and the different forms that healing comes in. This isn't just a good story set in a great time period with engaging characters, you feel the depth of moments and the impact that different people have on your story. I laughed, I cried, I cringed. I loved the nod to other characters in the series, and the development of new ones. (seriously though, how often do secondary characters leave their mark? These ones do!)
Thoroughly enjoyed this read and REALLY looking forward to what comes next in the Hands of Time series.

I absolutely love discovering a book that wrecks me emotionally. Without a doubt, Deadeye is one of the most emotional stories I’ve read. I cried, held my breath, and felt relief at so many intense scenes. Everything about the story drew me in and kept me wanting more.

Justice is a courageous young woman who disguises herself as a young man to fight for the union in the Civil War. Before, during, and after the war, she faces a lot of heartbreak and challenges that would break most people. The effect of her pain is an inability to love herself and accept love from others. The genuinely kind people that come into her life and connect with her help her heal.

The love connection between Justice and Eamon develops slowly through a marriage of convenience. Eamon falls first and is willing to defend and fight for her. She was not a genteel woman of the time, and he loved her for it. I cheered every time they grew closer together. This was meant to be an emotional experience as a man and woman grow to love each other.

Deadeye can be read as a standalone, but Ashley Nikole has a unique aspect to the plot that makes more sense if you read the series in order. It gave a twist that I really enjoyed, and now I’m eager to go to book 1 and dive in. This is a book I won’t soon forget!

So many series shrivel up by the time you get to the third book, but not this one! Another amazing book by Ashley, once I started reading I didn’t want to stop. It might be my favourite in the series, but I say that every time I read one of them...
The characters are so real, and it is so easy to empathize with them and root for them. The plot is fast paced and keeps you on your toes! The prose is very well written as well, I always enjoy Ashley’s writing style.
I can’t pick a favourite character, they all are special in different ways. Some of the characters from the previous books return, so be sure you re/re-read them before this one!
The food also sounds so good, this is kind of random, but I always wanted to eat what the chefs were cooking up!

Five out of five, and I CAN’T WAIT for the next instalment in the ‘Hands Of Time’ series.

Content warning: there is quite a bit of violence, which isn’t surprising considering the story is about a civil war soldier.

I loved this book so much! Ashley managed to create yet another set of characters that have a whole world of there own. Each have morals and habits and personalities that are created so well I felt like I met them in reality! The story is beyond engaging and it kept me on my toes, it wasn’t predictable but it was consistent and so very fun to read! I love that the story seamlessly ties in pieces from the previous books and also what I hope to be pieces from future books! This book is being added to my favorites along side the rest of this series, I can’t wait to see what comes next from Ashley Nikole!!! Definitely 10/10 would recommend!!
