Budleigh, the Terrier with ‘Tude, is back! And this time, he’s dispensing crucial advice to Giants and Canines on everything from space travel and sniffing Covid, to giving a TED Talk and shopping for purses.
The exploits of this shelter dog – excuse us! – this unjustly incarcerated homeless Canine rescued by humorist Dave Jaffe and his wife, were laid bare through essays and cartoons in Sleeping Between Life, If You Could Call It That, With A Terrier, Book 1, the multiple national award-winning book that explored the highly successful, though often confusing relationship between Giants and Canines.
At six-months- ish old, Budleigh was “detained” in a shelter after his arrest by police in Waukegan, Illinois, on charges of vagrancy, loitering, and panhandling, which were false, and of being a stray dog, which was true.
Technically.
Newly adopted Budleigh bonded quickly with his Giants 1 & 2, and as their first shelter dog, proved no more a challenge than if they’d both pursued medical degrees. Cunning, intelligent, and fleetingly thoughtful, Budleigh gave proof to those old adages, “Smart as a Terrier” and “Did he break the skin?”
In Sleeping between Giants Book 2, Ask a Professional Advice from a Licensed Dog , Budleigh, now a mature and fully licensed Terrier, fields questions from his howling pack of devoted followers – Giant and Canine. He is dedicated to sorting out the lives of his readers in much the way he sorts out the lives of rabbits or other small prey.
As one reviewer wrote, “Budleigh is the Dear Abby of pooches. Or maybe Dear Abby is the Budleigh of advice columnists.”
An outrageously funny book that will have you howling with laughter, Sleeping between Giants Book 2, Ask a Professional Advice from a Licensed Dog reveals what’s going on in the mind of your Canine and why it’s just as odd as what going on in yours.

This sequel is just as funny and touching (perhaps even a smidgen more, in both categories) than Book 1 in this series. Dave Jaffe gets into the minds of dogs in such a way that, if it weren't so entertaining, would be a tad disturbing: Does he snack on kibble? Does he drink water out of a bowl on the floor? Does he need to be taken out for walks several times a day? Well, perhaps we'll just leave it at "Dave is loyal to a fault." A great read, very inventive with its mixture of essays, dialogue and comic strip-like entries, and perfect for anyone who either is or isn't a dog owner.
